Future of ComPiere?

Questions arise of what then may happen to Compiere itself. Though it is best left to the new investors in the board of Compiere to determine their path, speculation and analysis of its own public actions as well as the playing field which it operates on become public interest.

Change of Business Model

• To a 2-tier open/close model that attempts to repeat other Open Source commercialisation that is itself questionable and uncertain as to its sustainability
• Pressured to recoup by looking at options such as to sell its source to closed customers places a short fuse on its timetable to sell out faster
• Low interest in maintaining a subscription model where benefits are unclear and not scalable to higher set of needs.
• Fast flight of present adherents to other forks deplete previous business assumptions of a captive market. This shifts the figures greatly and forces a change of strategy midstream that adds to the gloomy picture.

Slower versioning of source code

• As compared to ADempiere spells lower competitiveness on a flat field it is operating on
• Closed developer model negates bazaar effect that accompany Open Source project. Robs Compiere of enjoyment costs savings and market advantages of fast turnover of versions.

IPO Possibility Question Mark

• Engagement of funding necessitates payback or financial results within a limited period usually within 3 years
• Necessity of financial sustenance in present model pose liability of depleted returns due to absense of services model that is more appropriate of Open Source market.
• Requires business focus thwarted to quickly find a large investor buyout instead of towards the quality of the product itself
• Conditions presently not permitting an optimistic outlook for IPO or angel exit plan
